Andrew Woofenden looks in good spirits during the Sheffield Half Marathon ( and slightly ahead of a certain Sports Minister as well). Congratulations on an excellent run and a marvellous £650 pounds in sponsorship raised. We like the Tshirt too!

It was a momentous day around the hospital when the United Co-operatives came to present not only a cheque representing a year long fundraising scheme by their 16,000 employees but hundreds of pink roses to patients and nurses. Sheffield's Lord Mayor Jackie Drayton came along too to help deliver the blooms and tour around the hospital.

We are please to say Andy Ogley (below) actually finished the Sheffield half marathon despite looking like this - he also managed to collect nearly £2,240 towards the £1 million Rose Appeal for Chemotherapy as well - which is greatly appreciated.

Congratulations to Karen Haw from Warncliffe Side who had her long hair shaved off at the Blue Ball pub. She was inspired by her friend who is struggling with her cancer. "It's grown back a bit now," says Karen."I'd just like to thank everyone in my family and around my neighbourhood who supported this event."

Thanks to Jill and Jenny of High Society in Retford, North Notts for their second highly successful fashion show in aid of Weston Park. It was an afternoon of colour and elegance enjoyed by all.

The Hallam Rotary Club put on a magnificent concert to celebrate their 50th Anniversary. Featuring the true sound of Yorkshire - the Grimethorpe Colliery Band with Bolsterstone Male Voice Choir - they packed out Sheffield University's Octagon Centre and a great evening was had by all. On top of that they had another celebration and invited that true son of Sheffield, politician and raconteur Roy Hattersley to help them present a cheque for more than £13,000 that was raised for Weston Park by the event. Many thanks to the Hallam Rotary President Geoff Humphries for choosing us as his special charity to benifit from the event. He is seen here (left) with Roy Hattersley.

Many thanks to the hundreds and hundreds of greenfingered folk who turned out to support the Plant Aid event at Ramshaw Lodge at Unstone near Dronfield on the 14th of May - despite the drizzle. There were bargains galore from pansies to pelagoniums, dill to dianthus. We we're so proud and pleased to be picked as one of the two official charities of this annual event - as well as astounded to see how much work, passion and dedication go into making it happen.

We love this picture of the children at Mundella Primary School in Norton Lees in Sheffield with lots of them in our Cancer Appeal Tshirts. They raised a brilliant £214 by selling our supermarket trolley tokens. Thos with eagle eyes will spot the little panda held by a girl in the centre of the picture - this was a mascot they gave to their teacher to look after him and bring into hospital while he was having his treatment . It's successfully made it's way back - so this is their way of saying thank-you.

They took 3 weeks and drove an old banger 4,000 miles in the Plymouth to Dakar Rally but Yasmin Khan and Georgia Hatzigiannidou still seem to be smiling. From their stories it sound like the two workmates who work at Beta Technology in Doncaster had a great old time. Here they are presenting their cheque to Professor Barry Hancock at Weston Park with local MP Megg Munnn.

Thanks to the Ian Cook & the staff from the Royal Mail the Rose Appeal for Chemotherapy is now £3,750 better off. they've raised the money with a whole host of events over 2005. Well done!

Well done to Andy Bacon and Steve Thrustle from Paul's Tackle Centre at Denaby Main who shaved their heads for the Appeal and raised more than £1,000. They are shown here with Paul Bacon from the shop.

It was a hair raising time at the Carlton and Smithies Ex-Servicesmen’s club in Barnsley.

Trish Buckley (below) had her head shaved in memory of fellow ladies section member Carole Brettoner who recently died of cancer. Not only that but Carole’s two sons Jason and Martin (above) had their bodies waxed (Ouch!) Just to keep it in the family it's Carole's sister Diane who shaved Trish's head.
“ It started off as a joke but then someone threw a £20 quid note on the table and said I’ll sponsor you “ said Trish. “I just thought this is a way we can remember Carole – she is so missed here at the club. She was a very popular lady – she didn’t need a drink to have a laugh she was daft as a brush and used to make us cry with laughing. When she died it knocked us all for six. Weston Park was so good to her we want to do something to help.”

Conragtulations to the Mexborough and District Quiz League who have raised £1000. That's alot of questions! Here are Mr & Mrs Topps presenting the cheque to Michael Gaughan (centre) from the Cancer Appeal Office.

Bolsterstone Male Voice Choir have been singing their socks off for us and we are very grateful. This is just one of many cheques they have given us in recent months.
