Weston Park Hospital Cancer Appeal

The Cancer Appeal was launched in 1994 to support the work of Weston Park Hospital and has gone from strength to strength ever since. And it's all down to you - our great, enthusiastic and generous supporters.

Hospital staff.

Why support Weston Park Hospital Cancer Appeal?

  • Weston Park Hospital is one of only three dedicated cancer hospitals in the UK
  • We built the Weston Park Hospital Cancer Research Centre which opened in 1999 at a cost of £2 million and now enables a multimillion pound programme of cancer research across all cancer types - the Cancer Appeal continues to support the core work of this facility year on year. We need to raise just over £1 million in the next year to support research at Weston Park Hospital.
  • We have recently completed a £1 Million Chemotherapy suite here at Weston Park Hospital ensuring the most modern and up-to-date facilities for this treatment.
  • Weston Park Hospital provides cancer treatment services for patients across the region - and that means Rotherham, Barnsley, Doncaster, Worksop and Chesterfield as well as Sheffield. Your donations benefit the patients from all these areas and beyond.
  • Our radiotherapy department is a leading national centre and is one of the best equipped in the country providing some of the quickest waiting times available - your donations have helped greatly with this.
  • The Cancer Information and Support Centre is a new drop in centre offering patients, their families amnd carers extra help and support in dealing with cancer. The building has been refurbished and the service is supported by your donations via the Cancer Appeal.
  • The Teenage Cancer Unit at Weston Park Hospital provides a specialised unit for patients aged 16 to 25. It is a specialist unit which is supported in part by the Cancer Appeal.

The Cancer Appeal has an office on the ground floor of Weston Park Hospital. We have a small staff who are available to guide you with your fundraising should you feel you need it. We are planning 3 campaigns for 2008 :-

  1. In Spring (March) we are focusing attention on the brilliant and beneficial cancer research taking place right here, right now for you.
  2. In Summer (June/July) we will be focusing our fundraising on men's cancers; prostate and testicular are the particularly 'male' cancers but we also support cancers across the spectrum which affect men. This will the the second year of our Men's Cancer Campaignand we hope you will join us.
  3. In Autumn (October) we will be running our ever popular and now well established Think Pink campaign for women's cancers. Don't forget to sign up for our popular Think Pink Sponsored Walk

There are many ways you can help - please don't think you have to get involved with our campaigns. We are fundraising all year round and will be only too willing to help you or discuss what areas of cancer work you would like your donation to be put towards.

We have a number of events which we run which you may like to get involved in. You might also like to organise your own events, in which case we have a handy fundraising pack to help you. We do ask you to register your name and address online before you can access this so we can keep a record of who is raising money in our name. This helps us cut down on fraud.

We are very grateful to everyone who supports the Weston Park Hospital Cancer Appeal and we know how much you want to help make things better both now and in the future. We know from your letters how much you appreciate the fantastic work being carried out right here in South Yorkshire and the North Midlands to fight this terrible disease.

Weston Park Hospital is a local treasure. It is 1 of only 3 dedicated cancer hospitals in the UK. It is a world leader in cancer research and it is working right here, right now for us. It is a centre of excellence and the Cancer Appeal has played no small part in helping achieve this. Please help us continue.
